Welcome to Scribble! These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and DUNA YAZILIM DANIŞMANLIK LİMİTED ŞİRKETİ, a company registered in İstanbul, Türkiye (“Scribble”, “we”, “us”). They cover the Scribble iPhone app, its widgets, Scribble Pro and this website (together, “Scribble”).
By creating an account or using Scribble, you agree to these Terms. Please also read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your data. If you don’t agree to these Terms, please don’t use Scribble.
Be kind. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users, and we remove both.
Your scribbles are yours. You only let us store them and deliver them to the friends you choose.
If you see something wrong, report it in the app. A person on our team reviews every report within 24 hours.
Scribble Pro is optional. Apple bills it, and you can cancel any time in Settings.
1. Who can use Scribble
You must be at least 13 years old, at least 15 if you live in Türkiye, or at least 16 if you live in Brazil. If the law where you live sets a higher minimum age for a service like Scribble, you must meet that age.
Scribble asks for your date of birth before you sign up. In some regions, Scribble instead checks your age range through Apple, when you sign up and when you open the app. Giving a false date of birth breaks these Terms.
If you’re under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use Scribble only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf. Buying Scribble Pro also needs their approval, for example through Apple’s Ask to Buy.
In some regions, the law requires a parent or guardian to approve significant updates to Scribble, such as a change to its age rating, its features or how it uses data. If you’re a minor there, a parent or guardian may need to approve such an update through Apple before you can keep using Scribble.
You can’t use Scribble if we’ve banned you before, or if the law prohibits you from using it.
If we learn that an account belongs to someone under the minimum age, we’ll delete it.
2. Your account
You sign up with a mobile phone number that you’re allowed to use, and confirm it with a code we send by text message. Your carrier may charge you for texts and data.
An account is for one person. Keep your phone and your account secure, because you’re responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else has used it, email us right away.
Other Scribble users can see your name, username and profile photo. Don’t choose any that impersonate someone, mislead people, infringe someone else’s rights or break our community rules. If yours does, we may change it or take the username back.
You may not sell, transfer or share your account or your username.
3. Your scribbles
Your content is everything you create or add in Scribble: photos, drawings, text, stickers, and your name, username and profile photo. You own your content, and we don’t claim ownership of it.
So that we can run Scribble, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license. It lets us host, store, copy, process and transmit your content, and adapt it technically (for example, resize or compress it, or add the small Scribble mark described below). It also lets us show your content to the people you send it to: in their inbox, on their Home Screen widget, in notifications, and as a drawing replay if you have Scribble Pro. We also use it to review reports, to enforce these Terms, and where the law requires. We don’t sell your content or use it for advertising.
This license ends when your content is deleted from our systems. The exception is content we need to keep for legal reasons or to handle a report, as explained in our Privacy Policy.
You promise that you have the right to share everything you send, and that it doesn’t break these Terms or anyone else’s rights. If a photo shows other people, make sure they’re happy for you to share it.
Scribbles are meant for the friends you send them to. Once delivered, they appear on your friends’ Home Screens, where anyone looking at those phones can see them. Friends can also take screenshots, share them, or save them to Photos with Scribble Pro. We can’t control or delete those copies. When someone without Scribble Pro shares or saves a scribble, the image carries a small “Made with Scribble · heyscribble.com” mark.
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
4. Community rules
Scribble is for having fun with friends. We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Don’t use Scribble to create, send or share anything that:
is sexually explicit or contains nudity. Never share anything that sexualizes minors: we permanently ban accounts that share child sexual abuse material and report them to the authorities.
is an intimate or sexual image of someone shared without their consent
harasses, bullies, threatens, intimidates, stalks or humiliates anyone
promotes hatred or violence against people because of their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or similar characteristics
shows graphic violence or gore, or encourages self-harm, suicide, eating disorders or dangerous challenges
supports terrorism or violent extremism
is illegal, encourages illegal activity, or offers illegal or regulated goods such as drugs or weapons
is spam, a scam, a chain message or unsolicited advertising
infringes someone’s copyright, trademark, privacy, image rights or other rights, or reveals someone’s private information without permission
impersonates a person or organization, or misleads people about who you are
Also, don’t misuse Scribble. In particular:
Don’t access, or try to access, other people’s accounts or data.
Don’t use bots, scrapers or other automated means to create accounts, send scribbles, find users or collect data.
Don’t interfere with Scribble, its servers or its security features, or try to get around them.
Don’t copy, modify or reverse-engineer the app, except as the law or an applicable open-source license allows (see section 7).
Don’t create new accounts to get around a suspension or a ban.
Don’t use Scribble for commercial purposes without our permission.
5. Reports, moderation and appeals
You’re in control
Only your friends can send you scribbles. You can remove a friend at any time, and they then can’t send you scribbles anymore. You can also block someone, and they then can’t find you, add you or send you scribbles.
Reporting in the app
Open a scribble’s menu and choose Report, then pick a reason. The scribble disappears from your inbox and widget right away, and a person on our team reviews every report within 24 hours.
Reporting without the app
Anyone can report content on Scribble that they believe is illegal or breaks these Terms, even without an account. Email hello@heyscribble.com with “Report” in the subject line. Please include:
the username of the account involved, and when the content was sent
why you believe it’s illegal or breaks these Terms
your name and email address
a statement that the information in your report is accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge
We’ll confirm that we received your report and tell you what we decided. If you’re reporting child sexual abuse material, you don’t have to give your name. We remove intimate images shared without consent within 48 hours of a valid request.
Copyright complaints
If you believe something on Scribble infringes your copyright, email us with:
your contact details
the work you believe is being infringed, and where the infringing content is (the username and date)
a statement that you believe in good faith that the use isn’t authorized
a statement that your notice is accurate and that you own the rights or are authorized to act for the owner
your physical or electronic signature
We remove infringing content and close the accounts of repeat infringers.
How we decide
We don’t automatically scan or filter scribbles. People on our team review reported content and accounts by hand, against these Terms and the law, and aim to act in a timely, careful, objective and proportionate way. Depending on how serious the problem is, we may:
remove content
warn you
limit features
suspend an account, or ban it permanently
We report content that threatens someone’s life or safety, or that shows child sexual abuse, to the authorities.
When we act on your content or account, we’ll tell you what we did, why, and how you can appeal, unless the law prevents us or the content is spam.
Appeals
If you disagree with a decision we made about your content or account, or about something you reported, email us within 6 months. A person will review the case again, and we’ll reverse the decision if we got it wrong. You can also take the matter to court.
6. Scribble Pro
What it is. Scribble Pro is an optional paid subscription that unlocks the extra features described in the app. Scribble works without it.
Billing. Apple sells and bills Scribble Pro through your Apple Account, and Apple’s terms apply to the payment. Before you buy, the app and Apple’s purchase sheet show the price in your local currency (with any taxes, as Apple determines), the billing period and any free trial.
Until you cancel. Your subscription continues, and is billed each period, until you cancel. Apple charges your Apple Account within 24 hours before each new period begins. To stop it, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends, in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. You keep Pro until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Deleting the app or your Scribble account doesn’t cancel your subscription.
Free trials. If a plan includes a free trial, you’ll be charged when the trial ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Each Apple Account can use a trial only once.
Refunds. Apple handles refunds under its own policies, through reportaproblem.apple.com. We can’t issue refunds ourselves. Nothing in these Terms limits the rights you have under consumer law, including any right to withdraw or to get a refund.
Price changes. Apple tells you in advance about a price increase and, where the law requires it, asks for your agreement before charging the new price.
Changes to Pro. We may change Pro’s features for valid reasons: for example, to fix security problems, follow the law, keep up with changes to iOS, or improve Scribble. If a change makes Pro significantly worse for you, we’ll tell you in advance. You can then cancel, and if the law gives you a right to a refund, you can request it through Apple.
Restoring Pro. Pro is linked to your Scribble account and your Apple Account. If it’s missing, tap Restore Purchases in the app.
Referral reward. When someone opens your add-friend link (for example, from an invite you shared) while their Scribble account is at most 7 days old, and becomes your friend, they count as a friend who joined through you. Becoming friends any other way doesn’t count. For every 3 of them, you get 1 month of Scribble Pro free, up to 12 free months in total. We grant free months automatically through our subscription provider, RevenueCat. Apple doesn’t bill them, they don’t renew, and they have no cash value. Fake or duplicate accounts don’t count, and creating or using them can void your rewards. We may change or end the referral reward at any time, but only going forward: free months you’ve already earned stay yours.
7. Scribble’s software and brand
We and our licensors own Scribble: the app, the website, the design, the Scribble name and logo, the icons and frames, and everything else in it except your content.
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to use the Scribble app for personal, non-commercial purposes on Apple devices that you own or control. The license is subject to these Terms and to the Usage Rules in Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions.
Parts of Scribble are open-source software. Each open-source component is covered by its own license, such as the GNU General Public License, and nothing in these Terms limits the rights that license gives you.
Don’t use the Scribble name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you or your product.
8. Other services
Scribble relies on services from Apple, Google (Firebase) and RevenueCat. When you use Scribble, you must also follow any third-party terms that apply to you, such as your agreement with your mobile carrier.
iOS decides when widgets refresh and when notifications appear, so we can’t guarantee that a scribble will show up at a particular time.
9. Changes
To Scribble. We keep improving Scribble, and may add, change or remove features. For features you pay for, see section 6. In some regions, a parent or guardian may need to approve a significant update before a minor can keep using Scribble (see section 1).
To these Terms. We may update these Terms when Scribble or the law changes, for security reasons, or to make them clearer. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app, or in another reasonable way, at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless we must act sooner for legal or safety reasons. If you don’t agree to the change, you can stop using Scribble and delete your account before it takes effect. If you keep using Scribble after that, you accept the updated Terms.
10. Ending your account
You can stop using Scribble at any time, and delete your account in Profile → Delete Account. Our Privacy Policy explains what gets deleted.
We may suspend or close your account, or remove content, in these cases:
you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms or the law
we need to protect other people, Scribble or us from harm
the law requires it
Unless the law prevents us, we’ll tell you why and how to appeal.
If we ever stop offering Scribble, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice in the app. Where the law requires it, you can get a refund for the unused part of a Pro subscription.
Sections 3, 7 and 11 to 16 still apply after your account ends.
11. Disclaimers
We work hard to keep Scribble running smoothly, but we provide it “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, we don’t promise that Scribble will always be available, uninterrupted, secure or free of errors, or that every scribble will be delivered or kept.
We’re not responsible for content that other people send you; it belongs to them.
If you’re a consumer, you have legal rights that these Terms can’t limit, for example under Türkiye’s Consumer Protection Law No. 6502 or the EU’s rules on digital content.
12. Limitation of liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for any of these:
death or personal injury caused by our negligence
fraud
damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence
any other liability that the law doesn’t allow us to exclude or limit
Apart from the cases above, and as far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses. We also aren’t liable for loss of data, profits or goodwill that we couldn’t reasonably have foreseen when you agreed to these Terms.
Apart from the cases above, and as far as the law allows, our total liability for all claims about Scribble is limited to the greater of two amounts: what you paid for Scribble Pro in the 12 months before the claim, or €50.
13. If you got Scribble from the App Store
These Terms are Scribble’s end user license agreement, and they apply instead of Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. If you downloaded Scribble from Apple’s App Store, you also agree to the following:
Agreement. These Terms are between you and us only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Scribble and its content.
Scope of license. Your license to use Scribble is limited to Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions. Other accounts in your Family Sharing group or volume purchasing program may also access it.
Maintenance and support. We, not Apple, are responsible for providing maintenance and support for Scribble. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for it.
Warranty. To the extent any warranty applies, if Scribble fails to conform to it you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app, if any. As far as the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Scribble. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses caused by a failure to conform to a warranty are our responsibility, subject to these Terms.
Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to Scribble or your use of it, including:
product liability claims
claims that Scribble fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement
claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws
Intellectual property. If a third party claims that Scribble, or your possession and use of it, infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.
Legal compliance. You confirm that you aren’t located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo or that the U.S. Government has designated as a “terrorist supporting” country. You also confirm that you aren’t on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
Contact. Send questions, complaints or claims about Scribble to us at the address in section 16.
Third-party terms. You must comply with any third-party terms that apply when you use Scribble.
Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept these Terms, Apple has the right, and is deemed to have accepted the right, to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
14. Governing law and disputes
If you have a problem, please contact us first. Most issues can be solved quickly by email.
The laws of the Republic of Türkiye govern these Terms, apart from its conflict-of-law rules. If you’re a consumer, this choice doesn’t take away the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live.
If you’re a consumer in Türkiye, you can apply to the Consumer Arbitration Committee (Tüketici Hakem Heyeti) where you live or where you made the purchase, within the monetary limits set each year. For larger amounts, you can apply to the Consumer Courts (Tüketici Mahkemeleri) after the mandatory mediation step.
If you’re a consumer elsewhere, you can bring claims in the courts of the country where you live, and we can bring claims against you only there.
If you aren’t a consumer, the courts and enforcement offices of İstanbul (Çağlayan) have exclusive jurisdiction.
15. General
These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Scribble.
If a court finds part of these Terms invalid, the rest stays in effect.
If we don’t enforce a right straight away, we haven’t given it up.
We may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms to another company as part of a merger, an acquisition or a sale of assets, as long as this doesn’t reduce your rights, and we’ll let you know. You may not transfer yours.
We aren’t responsible for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
These Terms are available in English and Turkish. For users in Türkiye, the Turkish version prevails. Any other translations are for convenience only.
